Crumbs: Cupcakes That Pack a Punch

New York is uniquely vulnerable to restaurant fads—when something makes money, hordes of imitators descend like locusts to try to grab their piece of the pie. Or, in the case with Crumbs, their piece of the cupcake. First opened in March of 2003, Crumbs caught the cupcake craze that quickly swept Manhattan courtesy of shows like “Sex & The City,” providing moist, delicious fist-sized cakes in a variety of flavors. Unlike many cupcakes, Crumbs doesn’t make their baked goods overly dense—their cake is airy, fluffy and moist, but firm enough to support a variety of delicious frostings and toppings. There are a wide variety of flavors on offer, from the perennial favorite Red Velvet to unique offerings with flavors of cheesecake, cookie dough, caramel apple, a special flavor of the month, and more. The Signature cupcakes are enormous and a feat to finish—but Crumbs now offers "Taste" and "Classic" sizes for those who want a smaller portion of a Crumbs creation. This isn’t the kind of thing you can eat every day, but if you want a sweet treat in the city, Crumbs will do you up right.
