Woodberry Kitchen joins the burgeoning farm to table movement with a menu that focuses on fresh, locally raised ingredients. Located in the historic Clipper Mill Industrial Park, the restaurant’s ambiance is classy, rustic, and relaxed, with vaulted ceilings, exposed brickwork, and stone and wood embellishments. The drink favorite is the Gov't Mule, a tasty concoction consisting of organic vodka, homemade ginger beer, and ginger-lime syrup, served up in a copper mug. Their complimentary bread basket features a tempting array of warm corn muffins, cranberry bread, and other yeasty delights. Starters include spicy deviled eggs garnished with crispy chipped ham and iced Chesapeake oysters on the half shell. Braised Liberty Delight Beef Shank and the Tilghman Island Crab Pot are favorite entrees that garner raves from diners. Stop by on weekends for Woodberry's bounteous brunch.

Peg Leg Imperial Stout, Davy Jones Lager, Winter Storm Ale, and Holy Sheet Abbey Ale are some of the ingeniously named beers turned out at this Baltimore brewery. They’re one of the biggest craft brewers in the U.S., turning out roughly 20,000 barrels a year which are distributed throughout the east coast. Stop by for a tasting and a tour of their facility where you can get up close and personal with the brewing operations. The Brewery also hosts occasional events, like the Beer & Oyster Fest each February. Call or see the website for tour schedules and tastings. Tours are free, tastings are $5.

Could there possibly be a more perfect location for a bookstore than on Read Street? Known as ‘the little bookstore/coffeehouse with a big heart’, Read Street Books and Coffee is the perfect place to relax with your favorite novel or biography and sip a cup of locally roasted java. You can also nibble on one of their tasty baked goods. It’s a tiny little shop, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in the quality of its book selection and its quaint cozy ambiance. Then there’s also the cheery proprietress who’s happy to talk books with you, or leave you alone to peruse the stacks by yourself. Stop by for a reading or book signing to support your local writers!

Baltimore has a very unusual place in cinematic history—the town’s most famous director, pencil-mustached sleaze lover John Waters, doesn’t exactly have the kind of Oscar pedigree you get in New York or Los Angeles. But what he does have is charm, and that’s a quality he shares with the Charles Theater, Baltimore’s oldest moviehouse. Located in the Station North district, which has become a hub for the city’s vibrant arts scene, the Charles is one of Charm City’s favorite places to see a movie. Serving as the hub for the annual Maryland Film Festival, the Charles’ programming is an exemplar of how to run a cinema, with arthouse entries sharing billing with Hollywood blockbusters. The main auditorium is where the action is, with a carefully-curated program of revival screenings, premieres and special events, as well as occasional live music and theatre performances. If you’re an admirer of the silver screen, the Charles is where it’s at in B-more.
