4 Walls Employee Spotlight: Meet Erin Finnerty

How long have you been with 4 Walls?
Since March 15, 2014, officially. I previously worked as a freelancer for about a month before coming on board part-time.

What's a typical day like for you?
My weekdays are spent at my regular gig – Staff Assistant to the Dean of a University of Pennsylvania medical school – and can be quite stressful and hectic, but generally rewarding. I also spend time during the week chipping away at content assignments, which is a thankful break from the hectic nature of my job (believe it or not!).

What's the best thing about your job?
The best thing about working with 4 Walls is the generous flexibility, which I've never experienced before, mostly working in offices in support roles. I've also enjoyed getting to know my colleagues remotely and am happy to have been warmly welcomed by a great community of creative thinkers.

What do you do in your spare time?
My husband and I have a 10-month old puppy, Maggie, and most of my time is spent taking her to the dog park, napping with her on the couch, watching movies and reading with her on the weekends. She's the best.

What is an interesting or little-known fact about you?
I'm great at baking pie and once won a pie contest, but my dirty secret is store-bought crusts. I am even better at eating pie. My dad managed a bakery in Detroit (my hometown) for most of my life, so that might be where it comes from.

4 Walls Employee Spotlight: Meet Chris Karnes

How long have you been with 4Walls?
Since February 2014. So just over a month.

What's a typical day like for you?
Busy and extremely exciting. I'm in the web services group, which is all things PPC, SEO, and web design. It can encompass anything from holding client meetings, drafting proposals, managing paid search campaigns or planning the UX strategy of a new website.

What's the best thing about your job?
Being able to impact the bottom line for our clients in measurable and creative ways. It's truly an art and a science and we're lucky to have a great amount of trust from our clients. That allows us to really think in a different way and use the talents and experiences of our team to do some amazing things.

What do you do in your spare time?
Usually playing some form of Cinderella-inspired imagination/dress-up game with my toddler daughters. It's cool though, I get to be the prince. Aside from that, my wife and I are usually trying to find child-friendly travel adventures to embark on a couple of times a year.

What is an interesting or little-known fact about you?
I spend way too much time at Home Depot even though I can barely hang a picture on the wall. It's embarrassing how bad I am at handyman-type things. Even painting walls. I suck at painting walls.

Three Common Misconceptions About Astronomy

Safe and sound within the confines of our daily routines, it's hard to imagine the uncharted vastness that is Outer Space. Want to brush up on your astronomy knowledge? Here are three commonly-held truths about astronomy and Outer Space that are actually false.

The North Star is the brightest star in the night sky.
The North Star is actually of average brightness. It only appears to be the brightest star because of its close proximity to the North Celestial Pole (NCP). However, it remains true that if you're in the northern hemisphere, you can always determine your direction by looking for the North Star.

It takes the Earth one year (365 days) to orbit the Sun.
To complete one revolution, it takes the Earth a period of 365.24 days (approximately 365-1/4 days).

There's no gravity on the Moon.
The Moon does have significant gravity; it just has less than the Earth's.

4 Walls Employee Spotlight: Meet Noel Houser

Name:
Noël Grace Houser

Position:
Client Services Manager

How long have you been with 4 Walls?
2 ½ years

What’s a typical day like for you?
A typical day involves reaching out to properties, posting content to their social media accounts and monitoring comments and posts. I give them ideas of what to post and how to keep their social media current and interesting. I also help train their staff on new social media. In the role of Client Services Manager, I’m here to field any questions and conduct training with the Client Service Team when needed. Lastly, I help out when needed by editing and creating listings for apartment communities in the ILS.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that I love my job! I enjoy teaching and providing clients with ideas for their social media sites, and helping them improve their SEO and fan bases. I also work with a great team of people, which makes coming to work that much more enjoyable. Working from home is also up there for me too. My husband is a Philadelphia Police Officer who has a crazy schedule, so it is nice to be able to see him when he is on night shift, rather than passing each other as I walk in the door and he’s walking out to go to work.

What do you do in your spare time?
All my friends know I’m a HUGE Phillies fan! I love going to games with my husband and even watching them on TV. I love shopping, spending time with my family and playing with my wonderful bulldog Brewzer! I also love playing softball. I grew up playing and even went to the Little League World Series in Portland, OR when I was 12. My team came in second place. But this summer I had to take a hiatus since we are expecting our first child Aug 21st! It's a very exciting time in my life right now!

4 Walls Employee Spotlight: Meet Lisa Hankin

Name:
Lisa Hankin

Position:
Respage Project Manager

How long have you been with 4 Walls?
It was three years in December 2012.

What’s a typical day like for you?
Oh my goodness, I don't think there is a typical day as a Project Manager. Not only do the new clients and Respage projects keep me on my toes, but the constant interaction with our current client base keeps me busy. Some days it’s just about creating the look for our clients' new property blogs, while other days it’s answering emails to keep our clients happy and hosting webinars to teach and review with our clients our awesome Respage Express system.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The people are the best thing about my job. Not only the amazing group of people I work with, who at times keep me sane on crazy days, but the clients I have are so friendly and personable to talk to. It’s been such a pleasure creating relationships with everyone over the past three years.

What do you do in your spare time?
My spare time is very busy. I have two daughters who keep me going. Amanda is graduating from high school this year, so now is even a more crazy time for us. Ashley is an avid lacrosse player for not only school, but her club team as well, so I spend a lot of time driving all over to games. I am also engaged, and along with my fiancé's three children, a lot of our time is spent doing things as an extended family and having fun.

What is an interesting or little-known fact about you?
Hmm, that question makes me laugh as my mind fills with so many things to say. I would say my artwork. Although I do not paint or draw much anymore, it is definitely a passion that I have had since I majored in art studies in school. I have such an artistic, creative side and love to express it through painting.

Employee Spotlight: Meg Paolini

Name:
Meg Paolini

Position:
Writer & Content Editor

How long have you been with 4 Walls?
I started with 4 Walls in February 2013.

What’s a typical day like for you?
I split my time between two tasks. Some weeks I'm working on editing posts, and other weeks I'm working to create original content for specific markets or just general posts. Either way, I spend most of my time writing!

What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that I get to write, all day long. It feels like I'm visiting all these different cities, reading and writing about things to do and popular restaurants, without the cost of traveling. There is always something new to write about and research.

What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy watching TV and movies as well as knitting and crocheting. It may seem like a hobby for people from another generation, but I love it.

What is an interesting or little-known fact about you?
I love baking and dream of opening a cupcake shop one day.
