From the Desktop of Larry Portnoff: A Celebration of Donuts

Greetings to all from the back office of 4 Walls. I generally work behind the scenes as our CFO and strategic business analyst, however today I wanted to share something near and dear to my heart: The quest for the world's greatest donut. This week we should all take a moment to celebrate the summer season and think fondly of fried dough.

Friday, June 3, 2011, is National Doughnut (or donut if you prefer) Day. Believe it or not, it's for real. According to Wikipedia, “National Donut Day is on the first Friday of June each year, succeeding the Donut Day event created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.” (For more information, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Doughnut_Day)

So share with us your favorite donuts (or donut-type treats for those of you in NOLA who are fond of Beignets). If you know of a place that has, hands down, the best donut around, let us know. Who knows, we may just send you a box of your favorites. In any event, this is the era of social media, so “like” a donut today.

End Note: Our “national” unofficial poster child/man who symbolizes the love of those tasty treats has to be Homer Simpson, created by the beloved Matt Groening. Here's a little food for thought:

"Dear Homer, IOU one emergency donut. Signed Homer. Bastard! He's always one step ahead." —Homer Simpson

"Mr. Scorpio says productivity is up 2%, and it's all because of my motivational techniques, like donuts and the possibility of more donuts to come." —Homer Simpson

"Donuts. Is there anything they can't do?" —Homer Simpson

  1. George Honig says:

I like the plain cake donuts. I don’t eat them too often, but whenever I am in Toronto, everyone says I have to go to Tim Horton’s. Good with a cup of coffee.

  2. Yes! I’ve heard that is the place to go.
